My quilt

While Benton and I were living in Illinois we decided I should find a hobby, something that I loved doing just for me. Well we found out we were moving back to Utah, so I held off on finding my hobby. Once I was settled back in Utah, I decided to take a quilting class and see if it's something I liked doing. I started in the middle of September and went to class each week for about 6 weeks. I took my class in Sugar House at Pipers Quilts & Comforts.

The first night we practiced and made our first square. I didn't end up using this square as a part of my quilt since I used a different pattern but it turned out pretty cute.

I hadn't realized how much cutting and organizing went into quilting. Our teacher told us to find a pattern from a book or the internet and she'd help us figure it out. Well I didn't realize that I had picked a really difficult pattern especially for a first time quilter. She reassured me we could do it, but I would just need to be really organized. For me that's easy, I'm all about organization so it worked out really well.

My pattern told me to pick out 28 different fat quarters (pieces of material) for my quilt. It was so much fun, since there were so many cute patterns to choose from.

Here's an idea of how complicated my pattern was...

Once I had the fabric and I had a plan, I begin cutting.

There also is a lot of ironing that takes place...

Once all cut and organized i began sewing together the rows.

Once I began sewing the pieces together I didn't get any more pictures of the process. Once I had all the rows sewed together, I took it to the quilters who stitched the back, the batting and the front of the quilt together. I didn't realize they didn't bind the edges, so I got the quilt back in the middle of November and had it siting in the closet until this past week.

Thanks to my cute friend Danielle, who kindly let me come along to her grandmas house who showed me how to bind it together. I figured it wouldn't take long to do, boy was I wrong. It took a good 6 hours to finish, but it was well worth it!

Now the finished product! I made this cute quilt for Cambree, something I could pass along to her and hopefully she can give to her daughter one day.

I'm in love with it and I am so happy I made something so meaningful for Cambree. Now I need a sewing machine so that I can continue on this new found hobby!

Oh Melissa, it's soooo beautiful. What a talent. How special for little cambree, I just love that idea. Wish I had the patience for something like that.
