Bye Bye Binky!

One week ago today, we got rid of Cambree's binky. I don't want her using one when the twins are born, so we thought it would be best to get rid of it sooner than later. I have been dreading this day for 22 months. It really is so nice for her to have something that can soothe her so well. And it's been really nice and easy for me when she cries to just say "Stick your binky in your mouth" and have her stop crying.

I decided to cut the tip of two of her binky's. I think I cut too much off though, because she could barley put them in her mouth.

This is how our conversation went:
Cambree found one of her binky's and stuck it in her mouth, which of course no longer worked. She lowered her eyebrows, you could tell she was totally confused.

"Oh no!" she said.
"I think your binky is broken, Cambree." I replied.

"Oh NO!" She said and grabbed me by my fingers pulling me to the kitchen. She asked me to lift her up to the kitchen sink, and she grabbed a paper towel. I gave it to her and she tried rubbing her binky on the paper towel.

"All better?" she said?
"Stick in your mouth and see." I replied.
"Oh no!" You could see the wheels turning in her head. She runs for her bedroom, and sees her other binky in her crib. I lifted her inside, she stuck the other binky in her mouth..."Oh no, broken?!" she responded.

I lifted her out of her crib, which she then proceeded to get on her hands and knees to look under her crib for more binky's. Thankfully I thought to look under her crib for binky's that might have gone overboard while she slept.

All Monday, she looked at them, stuck them in her mouth and was confused as to what happened to them. At nap time she cried for one hour straight before she fell asleep. And when I say she cried, she balled her eyes out, kicking her crib and throwing things out of her crib. That night she only cried for 30 minutes before she fell asleep. She was so upset she'd throw everything out of her crib, even her blankies.

Other than that she's been pretty good. There definitely has been times when she's wanted it as well as myself. I am not giving in and turning back. Bye bye binky!

I'm so glad it's gone for good, it feels like we have a big girl now instead of a baby. Mommy is so proud of Cambree!

Yikes! That is so hard. My boys have blankies. I mean serious attachment issues. I've driven to peoples houses at bedtime to get where it was left, searched for hours, delayed bedtime while it finished drying. Jayden isn't quite as attached as Casey is. Casey sucks on one edge and tickles his nose with the tag to go to sleep.I'm horrible because I tell myself if we both have to work, then I like him to have a 'comfort' while we are away and he's with his nanny. So way to be strong! I'm sure my boys will be taking their woobies on dates and I can hear counseling sessions now, it all began with ME!

You are amazing! Cohen was attached to his binky like crazy too and it took me till he was like 2 1/2 to get rid of it! And London couldn't really care less about it. Funny how they are so different. Good for you to stick to your guns. She's a little cutie bug!

I can't wait to hear the update as to how it is going. :) You're brave. I started with a much smaller cut. But I like your way. You get over the horrible part much faster.

good for you..my kids have never been binki lovers, but we had a heck of a time getting Lincoln's bottle away from him. In fact, it was the cause of some of his cavities. Big parenting mistake on our part, that I will never make again. So good for you for breaking the habit of the bink, sure is hard!!
