This past week I watched an episode of Oprah. They were talking about the seriousness of talking/texting while driving, the statistics SHOCKED me! They said that if you are talking on your cell phone while driving your 4 times as likely to get in an accident, which is the equivelent of driving drunk. Did anyone else know this? I felt awful, because I do it everyday and I obviously do not agree with people who drive under the influence. So I am just as bad as they are...not good. I don't use a bluetooth or anything, but they said that it is still as dangerous, because your brain can't take in that much information while driving, so nobody can say "Well I'm not holding on to my phone while driving at least, I have 2 free hands." It doesn't matter, your still not paying attention.
If you text while driving your 8 times as likely to get in an accident, so it's worse to text while driving than driving drunk...can you believe that? I don't text and drive so that makes me feel a little better. So one of my goals this year is to not talk on the phone while driving, I think it's going to be really hard, but I have to think of it this way, "Is the conversation worth more than someone's life?" The answer is NO. I know I can wait to talk to my friends/family til I am off the road....so don't be offended if you are driving and I tell you to call me when you arrive at your destination. This is a hard goal because I love to multitask, but obviously so do other people and they end up hurting or killing those who didn't do anything wrong. Gees, what an eye opening show!

Those statistics are shocking! I didn't realize that just talking on your phone could be so dangerous. I knew that texting is really bad, and I don't do that. But I do talk on my phone- Yikes! I also need to stop doing that, because you are right- that phone call can wait until I am not driving!
This is something I have agreed with for a long time. I wish they would make no talking while driving a law, I was watching the news last night and they are trying to pass a bill saying kids under 18 can't talk on the phone while driving. All I could think of is it should be for everyone. Good for you though, I try not to if at all possible. But I am definelty guilty of it every now and then.
I didn't see that episode but I keep hearing about it. I talk on the phone all the time while driving but what a good resolution for the year to not to and wait until I arrive. The texting really does kill me I can't even punch in a number while driving I am too distracted I can't imagine trying to text.
Wow that is crazy! I talk on my phone and drive a lot. Not good! Thanks for the post.. really I'm not going to talk and drive anymore. I still have this episode on my DVR, I'll have to check it out.
Other that the whole Oprah thing.......it's illegal in Utah. If they catch you, you will go to jail. I'm surprised you haven't heard on the news. Just be careful. If you get in any accident small or large, they track your cell phone to see if you were on at all. It's really hard to hide anything now days with technology.
Its so true, I always think i shouldnt be talking while driving...it really should be a law! I saw part of that show, its a good reminder!
